Governor Rick Scott signed HB 75/Military Assistance Bill on April 6, which authorizes Pensacola State College to waive fees for active duty military students using tuition assistance. The bill unanimously passed the Senate and House on March 13.
Beginning July 1, Florida College System (FCS) institutions, which includes Pensacola State College, will be able to use the U. S. Department of Defense Military Tuition Assistance (MTA) program to waive any portion of fees for student activities and services, financial aid, technology, and capital improvements.
Six Pensacola State College students each received $1,000 grants from the Florida Theatrical Association. Kathan Brannon, Sarah Lane, Veronica Lindholm, Demetrius McNutt, John Chance Ruschel and Jessica Wright were selected leadership, accomplishments and performance abilities.
Five Pensacola State College scholars were honored for academic excellence by the Florida College System. Alexandria Bly, Bradley Bunch, Kayla Pope, Miranda Taylor and Victoria Taylor were selected for the 2018 FCS All-Florida Academic Team.

During a recent Book Talk, Rachael Pongetti shared how her book “Uncovering the Layers: The Pensacola Graffiti Bridge Project,” became an artistic collaboration.

Pensacola State’s “Go here. Get there.” motto is more than just four words to Natasha Suggs. For most of her collegiate career at Pensacola State, Suggs, a nursing student ─ set to graduate on May 6 ─ rode ECAT buses from Century to classes on the Warrington and Pensacola campuses. Even though, she has logged a lot of miles, Suggs is thankful to Pensacola State for allowing her to pursue her dreams.
The 13th Annual Big Break Golf Classic is quickly approaching. Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships and programs at Pensacola State. Participants and volunteers are needed – so if golf is your game or you just want to help out, contact the Pensacola State College Foundation.
Illegal immigration, racism and homophobia are among the political and social issues to be addressed during this year’s Hispanic Film Festival at Pensacola State College.
Five Spanish-language films – “Carga Sellada,” “¿Quién es Dayani Cristal?,” “El Pelo Mado,” “El Aula Vacia” and “Neruda” – will be shown throughout April during the annual festival co-sponsored by Pensacola State and Pragda.
The free festival is open to the public and the movies have English subtitles. All shows begin at 6 p.m. in Hagler Auditorium, Building 2, on the Pensacola campus.

The Pensacola Civic Band will present “Heal Our Land,” a concert event celebrating unity through music, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Pensacola Saenger Theatre, 118 S. Palafox St.
“What can we do to keep our schools safe?” The answers are varied, but the one thing that remains constant is the need to be prepared for the unexpected.
That is what Pensacola State College’s second annual Campus Safety Month was all about.
Beginning March 1 with a Safety Month Kickoff and Law Enforcement Panel, daily events followed including workshops, trainings, discussions and demonstrations designed to foster safety awareness. A “Safety Day” was held on each campus with representatives from local police and fire departments, the American Red Cross, Escambia County Emergency Management Agency, the Arrive Alive Tour Drunk & Distracted Driving Simulator, and Lakeview Center’s SHAPE (Substance-abuse, HIV Assessment & Prevention Education) on hand. Free food, T-shirts and other giveaways were a big hit as well.
As part of Stress Less Week ─ April 23-27, the Pensacola State College Planetarium will present several shows to help take the edge off.

Neil Hilborn has overcome some personal struggles in his life. Rather than let them beat his down, Hilborn turn those battles into poetry.
The 2011 College National Poetry Slam Champion, Hilborn will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus at 1000 College Blvd.
