Southern history expert to discuss police brutality, Confederate imagery on Jan. 31

Michael Butler Jr., will tackle the polarizing issues of “Police Brutality and Confederate Imagery: The Black Freedom Struggle in One Florida County (Escambia)” on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Pensacola State College.

Butler, an associate professor of history at Flagler College, will speak at 7 p.m. in College’s Hagler Auditorium, Building 2, Room 252 on the Pensacola campus.

PSC Hosts Financial Aid Day Feb. 4

Get free, expert help applying, registering, and paying for college at Pensacola State College’s Financial Aid Day from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Student Center, Building 5, on the Pensacola campus, 1000 College Blvd.

Ask questions, use the Computer Lab for online forms, and receive one-on-one assistance.  Academic and Financial Aid counselors will be available to help new and returning students and their parents through the admissions and registration steps.

SWERVE/dance Company to perform at PSC on Jan. 27

Northwest Florida’s own SWERVE/dance Company will bring its unique style of contemporary dance to Pensacola State College on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The performance is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Ashmore Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus, 1000 College Blvd.

Formed in 1996, SWERVE is a modern dance ensemble made up of dancers from varied performing backgrounds who create, perform and present contemporary dance.

Members of Pensacola State College’s AFC chapter masqueraded as Santa Claus for the First Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program during the holiday season. Association of Florida College members purchased and donated about 40 new toys, assorted gift cards and more than $200 in cash to children in need  throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Mel Miner, a Guardian ad Litem and AFC member, said the donations made a tremendous difference in the lives of the children in the program.
