The 250 Years Proud campaign at Pensacola State College got off to a spirited start with hands over hearts for the Pledge of Allegiance at campus flagpoles on Friday, Jan. 30, along with music and student activities celebrating our nation’s history throughout January.
Patriotic campus events will continue throughout the months leading up to the nation’s semiquincentennial on July 4, with military appreciation setting the tone for February.
- Students are invited to the 250th Military Appreciation Cookout from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, outside of the Veteran and Military Family Service Center in Bldg. 6 on the Pensacola campus. The VMFSC, TRIO Veterans Upward Bound and Student Engagement sponsor this event.
- On Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 16, PSC students will compete in the first Sunshine State Debate at Florida’s Historic Capitol in Tallahassee. The Ronald Reagan presidential debate style, emphasizing civility, storytelling and humor, has been adopted.
- PSC history professor Brian Rucker will present “A Prelude to the Revolutionary War” for a lunch-and-learn lecture at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the Allen Liberal Arts Building, Bldg. 4, Room 401. Lunch will be provided for PSC students and the first 12 faculty or staff members to register at hss@pensacolastate.edu.
- The PSC Century Center will hold its flag-raising ceremony at 7:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27. Students, faculty and staff are invited to gather around the flagpole to recount patriotic quotes and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

- PSC Athletics will honor active-duty service members, veterans and their families during the Military Appreciation Day basketball games on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Pirates will compete against Gulf Coast State College with the Women’s Basketball game at 2 p.m. and the Men’s Basketball game at 4 p.m. in the Hartell Arena on the Pensacola campus. PSC faculty and staff can order this year’s commemorative T-shirt up until 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6. Orders can be placed online at pensacolastate.edu.
