Pensacola State College visual arts students won 58 awards at the AAF Pensacola 2019 American Advertising Awards Gala held Feb. 16 at the Hilton Pensacola Beach.

 

Pensacola State students earned 27 gold and 29 silver ADDYs, a Student Judges Choice and a Best of Show awards.

 

In the professional division, Pensacola State Marketing Department graphic designers won three silver ADDYs.

 

Sarah Goolsby won a gold medal and Student Judges Choice Award for her “Dead Men Rum” in the packaging category, and the Best of the Show Award and a second gold medal for “Stainglass Liquor” also in the packaging category.

 

Goolsby also garnered two silver ADDYs for “Pure Tea” and “Lime and Ginger Candle” – both in the single photo category.

 

The American Advertising Awards, formerly known as the ADDYs, “honor excellence in advertising and cultivate the highest creative standards in the industry.” The AAF student division of the competition is open to full- and part-time college students and student interns attending accredited U.S. institutions.

  • Daniel De Castro – “Springburg Tissues,” packaging category; “Dani’s Pizza,” packaging category; “Lyceum Art Poster,” single poster category; “Springburg Logo,” logo category; “Oh My Swirl,” logo category; and “Hadley Interiors Brand Manual,” art direction single category
  • Megan Celis – “Crave (organic foods),” logo category
  • Karli Simmons – “Finishing School Spy Novels,” cover design category

In the professional division, Pensacola State graphic artists Robin Mertins and Zack Blessings won a total of three silver ADDY.

 

Mertins won for her “PSC Search Piece,” in the brochure category, while Blessing for the “PSC Foundation Impact Report” in the public service annual report category and “2018 Holiday Experience,” in the card or invitation campaign category.

 

Also, Sheila Nichols, Pensacola State’s Executive Director of Marketing and Information, along with Seek Creative won two silver ADDYs for the College’s cybersecurity video and a recruitment video.

 

Linh O’Briant, a Pensacola State graphic design instructor, said both the graphic design and photography students did outstanding at this year American Advertising Award ceremony.

 

“There were several first-time winners along with one graphic design student that has competed and won three consecutive years. We are all very proud of the students’ success and for creating winning pieces,” she said.

 

“Whenever the graphic design and photography students compete in this competition, we always hope that they would take home the Judges Choice and Best of Show awards. This year, we were all very excited that Sarah was able to take home both. It was nice to see how all her classmates, faculty members, and friends cheered for her success.”
