Pensacola State faculty members ─ Dr. Caren Garrity, Jimmy Rhea and Michael Cole – were recently inducted into the College’s Academy of Teaching Excellence.
The trio and Dr. Lillian Harding, the 2024 Outstanding New Faculty Member, were honored at a dinner on April 4 in the Molly McGuire Culinary Dining Room.
Garrity is an assistant Natural Sciences professor, Rhea is an assistant Visual Arts professor, and Cole is an Adjunct Faculty in the English and Communications Department.
Harding is an assistant Business professor.
The Pensacola State College Teaching Excellence awards are designed to recognize outstanding classroom instructors who demonstrate sustained teaching excellence as measured by four criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for subject matter;
- Good rapport and relationship with students;
- Effective course content and organization; and
- Effective instructional methods.
In 1994, the Academy started honoring one outstanding new faculty member each year.
The Academy of Teaching Excellence induction dinner was prepared by students in the College’s Culinary Management Program.
