Pensacola State College was designated a Purple Heart College in recognition of its commitment to supporting student veterans, active- duty service members, and their families.
The designation was awarded during a ceremony held Thursday, August 7, officially recognized as Purple Heart Day. The proclamation was presented by Dr. Andrew Del Gaudio, department commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart – Alabama Division.
Pensacola State earned the designation by providing academic and career support to student veterans through its Veteran and Military Family Service Center, which helps student veterans transition from military to college life. The college offers the Order of the Purple Heart recipients priority registration, preferred parking, scholarships, and specialized academic advising.
Those also recognized during the ceremony included Chris Lambert, a three-time Purple Heart recipient; Jill Hubbs, a Gold Star and Purple Heart family member; Charlotte Crespo, a PSC student veteran, reservist, and Purple Heart recipient; and Steven “Chris” Williams, a PSC student veteran and Purple Heart recipient.
“The Purple Heart designation strengthens our continued commitment to our student veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families,” said PSC President Dr. Ed Meadows. “We proudly serve as a Military Friendly and Best for Vets institution and are honored to receive the distinguished honor of the Purple Heart.”
