Pensacola State College celebrated the close of another exciting year of Pirate Athletics on April 25 at Hartsell Arena. More than 200 guests—including student-athletes, their families, coaches, and loyal supporters—filled the venue to honor a year of hard work, growth, and achievement across all sports programs.
Hailey Lotz, Executive Director of Development for Alumni and Athletics, welcomed attendees and thanked them for their continued support. Athletic Director Bryan Lewallyn followed with opening remarks, reflecting on the year’s accomplishments, and setting the tone for an evening dedicated to recognizing the efforts and impact of Pirate student-athletes.
Dinner was provided by Sonny’s BBQ as guests enjoyed highlights and reflections from each athletic program. Coaches took the stage to share memories from the season and to present team-specific honors, including the Pirate Award, Most Outstanding, and the Presidential Award. Each award celebrated not only athletic performance but also character, leadership, and commitment to excellence on and off the field.
One of the most heartfelt moments of the evening came with the presentation of the Carla Williams Award. Hailey Lotz presented the award to Maddie Mire, a sophomore libero and defensive specialist for the women’s volleyball team. This award, given in memory of beloved PSC coach and educator Carla Williams, is not presented every year—only when a student-athlete’s character and impact reflect the spirit and selflessness Carla embodied.
In her remarks, Hailey shared that Maddie is not only a phenomenal competitor and outstanding student, but a leader among her peers. Her presence has made a lasting impact on PSC Athletics, and she truly leaves the college better than she found it. Her coaches and the entire department unanimously recognized her as deserving of this rare and meaningful honor.
The night concluded with words of encouragement and well-wishes from PSC President Ed Meadows, followed by closing remarks from Bryan Lewallyn, who expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to another successful year. The banquet served as a reminder of the pride and Pirate spirit that define PSC Athletics—and the bright future that lies ahead.
