Natasha (Suggs) Johnson
For Natasha (Suggs) Johnson, the journey to becoming a nurse began with a dream – and a bus ticket.
When she enrolled at Pensacola State College in 2014, Johnson didn’t have a car. Instead, she relied on public transportation, catching a 7 a.m. bus from Century every day and returning home by 7 p.m. – spending four hours commuting daily – to pursue her education.
“Pensacola State College offered affordable classes, and there was a bus route available to assist with transportation to and from classes,” she said matter-of-factly.
That determination paid off. Johnson earned her Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Registered Nursing-AS degrees, and a Phlebotomy license from PSC.
In August 2024, she joined the Medical-Surgical floor at West Florida Hospital, where she thrives amid the challenges and complexity of a large facility.
“I love being a nurse,” said Johnson. “And although healthcare has changed in the last few years, I enjoy being able to take care of and advocate for the patients under my care. I am a night shift nurse, through and through, and will be for my entire career.”
In addition to her professional achievements, Johnson celebrated a personal milestone when she married in March 2024, becoming a proud stepmother to two daughters.
Outside of work, she enjoys quiet moments and creative pursuits—reading, watching movies, and playing the acoustic guitar.
“I love sunsets, good food, and God—the Creator of both,” she said with a smile.
From daily bus rides to night shifts at a major hospital, Johnson’s story is one of perseverance, passion, and purpose. She is a proud Pensacola State College alumna—and a shining example of how grit and grace can carry a dream all the way to reality.
