Winning photo of the 2025 Sunset Photography Contest by Jenn Hendrix.
In-person and online voting continues through February 28
The winning photographer will be awarded a solo exhibition at Jaco’s in April
Located at the foot of Palafox Street, Jaco’s Bayfront Bar & Grille is a wonderful place for watching the sunset over Pensacola Bay. Golden-hour views draw business to the waterfront restaurant, and that’s what first sparked the idea of hosting a sunset photo contest for photography students at Pensacola State College. This year’s entries are currently on exhibit at the restaurant, with public voting taking place throughout February.
Jaco’s has presented the PSC Sunset Photography Contest since 2014, providing the college’s second-year photography majors with a month-long exhibition and publication in the restaurant’s promotional calendar. Plus, the student with the winning entry is awarded a month-long solo exhibition of their work at the restaurant in April.
“This partnership with Jaco’s provides great publicity for our students who are finishing the photography program; it’s a collaboration that has continued to grow, presenting promotional opportunities and generous funding for scholarships and student awards,” said PSC photography professor Mark Francis.
Eligible high school students applying to the photography program can receive a $1,500 Jaco’s Scholarship. Additional funds from the restaurant support cash prizes for the annual student art exhibition at the Switzer Gallery on PSC’s Pensacola campus.
PSC students Benjamin Calloway, Zoe Ellis, Gary Hines, Kelena Jenkins, Andrew Johnson, Jason Mulvihill, Kaitlyn Provo, Natalee Stuart, Ebony Wilder, Teanna Woodard and Ben Word have their sunset images on exhibit this month at the restaurant, where patrons are encouraged to take in the gallery and vote for their favorite photo. Online voting is also available via a polling link on Jaco’s Facebook page.
The voting deadline is Saturday, Feb. 28. One vote per person is allowed; duplicate votes will not be counted.
The winner will be announced at Jaco’s Bayfront Bar & Grille during a reception at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.
