ELDT – Entry Level Drivers Training

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations were established to ensure that commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers receive adequate training before obtaining their commercial driver’s license (CDL). The purpose of these regulations is to enhance highway safety by ensuring that drivers are properly trained to operate CMVs safely and efficiently.

The ELDT regulations set specific requirements and standards for training programs, instructors, and students. Training programs must cover essential topics such as driver qualifications, hours of service, vehicle inspections, and safe driving practices. Instructors must be qualified and certified to provide training, while students must complete classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and driving on public roads. A new driver cannot test for a CDL without satisfactorily completing this Federal Training requirement.

Pensacola State College Commercial Vehicle Driving program is certified by the FMCSA for ELDT training (Entry Level Driver Training) for Class A, Class B, HazMat, Passenger, and School Bus.
