
Students, faculty and staff from the PSC Century Center held a flag-raising ceremony on February 27 with Century Mayor Ben Boutwell and Dave Murzin, Century’s town administrator, in attendance.
Pensacola State College was 250 Years Proud in February with a military appreciation cookout, “A Prelude to the Revolutionary War” lunch-and-learn lecture, a flag-raising ceremony at the Century Center and Military Appreciation Day basketball games. Additionally, on Presidents’ Day, four PSC students competed in the first Florida College System Sunshine State Debate in Tallahassee.
The college’s 250 Years Proud celebration of our nation’s semiquincentennial continues in March with the following activities:
- “Rights, Responsibilities, and the Social Contract” is the topic for a Faculty Panel Discussion on Wednesday, March 11, at 2 p.m. in Bldg. 4, Rm. 401, on the Pensacola Campus.
- Mobile poetry stations will be set up around the Pensacola Campus March 23–26 for students to submit poems about their individual dreams for the country to the My American Dream Flag Project. Contributed poems will be displayed collectively on colorful cloth flags as an outdoor installation in the Chadbourne Library courtyard. The mobile poetry stations have been scheduled for the following dates and locations: Monday–Thursday, March 23–26, in the Chadbourne Library; Tuesday–Thursday, March 24–26, in Bldg. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Monday, March 23, in Bldg. 14 and Bldg. 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Tuesday, March 24, in Bldg. 10 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and Wednesday, March 25, in Bldg. 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- The next lunch-and-learn presentation in PSC’s 250 Years Proud Speakers Series will be “The Revolutionary War in the South” given by Assistant Professor Tom Barber, Ph.D., at 12 p.m. in Bldg. 4, Rm. 401, on the Pensacola Campus. Lunch will be provided for all students and the first 12 faculty or staff to register by emailing the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at hss@pensacolstate.edu.
- The PSC Milton Campus will hold a flag-raising ceremony at 7:45 a.m. on Friday, March 27. Students, faculty and staff are invited to gather around the flagpole to recount patriotic quotes and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
