Pensacola State College Athletic Director Bill Hamilton will be inducted into the 2018 Florida College System Activities Association Hall of Fame.
This fall, Hamilton will start his 35th year in college athletics. Twenty nine of those years have been at Pensacola State where Hamilton was head baseball coach before retiring in 2010, and the college’s athletic director since 1999.
Pensacola’s own, Joshua Kaye, was nominated for the 2019 GRAMMY Music Educator Award by the PTA at Hellen Caro Elementary School and, now, has been certified as a quarterfinalist.
According to the Recording Academy GRAMMY MUSEUM, Kaye was selected from the 2,800 initial nominees to be a GRAMMY Music Educator Award quarterfinalist. Kaye is among the 188 music teachers, from 177 cities, who now move on to compete in the semifinalist round.
Like many high school athletes, Robert Clay had aspirations for a college sports career. His lifelong dream was to play football at the University of Florida, but the odds were stacked against him.
No one in Clay’s immediate family had ever attended college. Not only that, but according to the NCAA, less than 3 percent of high school football players advance to a Division I program.
