Pensacola State College is busy preparing for a big change in its eLearning program. Beginning in the summer of 2014, our current eLearning system will be replaced by a new system called Canvas. Canvas, recently adopted by a number of colleges in Florida and across the nation, is built on current Internet technologies and should provide students with a significantly enhanced learning environment. We are excited about the change and look forward to working with everyone as we get to know the new college classroom. Stay tuned for future announcements.

An educational process where the student and instructor are separated by time, location, or both. Pensacola State offers two types of eLearning courses: "Distance Learning" courses and "Hybrid" courses.
What is a "distance learning" course?
Courses that allow students to complete all course requirements from off-campus. All distance learning courses are delivered via the internet.
What is a "hybrid course"?
Courses that blend elements of distance learning with on-campus requirements. The number of times a student visits a physical campus for a hybrid course may vary.
Will I ever have to come to campus for an eLearning course?
Distance learning courses do not require any campus visits. Hybrid courses do
How do I register for an eLearning course?
Once you have determined whether or not eLearning is for you, check the eLearning web site for a list of current course offerings. If you are new to Pensacola State please contact the Admissions Office for instructions. If you are a current Pensacola State student, register for any eLearning learning course in the same way you register for on-campus courses.
Are eLearning courses more expensive than on-campus courses?
Tuition for distance learning courses is the same as courses offered on-campus. However, distance learning courses carry an additional $8.33 per credit-hour distance learning fee.
How much do I need to know about computers to take an eLearning course?
Although you do not have to be a computer wiz, you should be familiar with the internet and be able to send/receive email (with or without attachments) and download/upload files.
Are eLearning courses easier than those offered on-campus?
No. In fact, due to the added responsibility placed on the student for managing his/her time independently, distance learning course can be more difficult.
Can I complete my entire program with distance learning courses only?
Yes. Pensacola State College currently offers two Associate of Arts degrees online: General Studies and Business. A certificate program is also offered in Office Management (Clerk CT).
My test, quiz, or exam in eLearning won't turn off. Is it lost?
Contact your instructor via email and explain what happened in detail. Be sure to mention your Course Name and which test you had a problem with. The test is saved by the system in most cases and your instructor may be able to release it from a "pending" area.
When I submitted my test, I got an error message or I couldn't get the test to turn off. Is my test lost?
Your test is probably being held in an area of the course called "pending". Your instructor can move it out of pending for you and the system will then grade it. Contact your instructor via email and ask them to check the pending area for you. Be sure to identify which test and explain why you're emailing them.
I went over the time limit for my test and then it wouldn't let me submit or I couldn't get the test to turn off. Is my test lost?
Some instructors have their tests set to "automatically" submit when the time limit has expired. Your test was submitted but the system sometimes "hangs up" so you are forced to close the test by closing the test window. Check your score for the test by opening the test link again. The score for the questions that the system can grade will be displayed. There may be other test items such as short answer questions or essays that your instructor must grade so be patient. It's a good idea to contact your instructor via email and ask them to check it for you at their convenience. Be sure to identify which test and explain why you're emailing them.
I can't see something in Course Content that the instructor says is now available. What should I do?
You probably need to change the Browsing History setting on your browser so that you are always getting the most up-to-date version of the course. This link below will open a Help File that shows you how to do that. Open HELP FILE
I can't see something in Course Content that I could before. How can I get that back?
Your instructor may have that item set to turn off at a specific date and time that corresponds to a due date or deadline. Check the course Calendar, Syllabus or Schedule to see if that is the case. Contact your instructor via email and ask for permission to get access to that item again. It's up to each instructor to make this decision.
My instructor claims they emailed me but I don't see those emails. How do I get them?
Sometimes your inbox is set to to the wrong "Source Filter" and only displays messages tagged for a particular source, such as "Personal" or "System". Change the Source Filter so that it shows the name of your course/section and hit the GO button. You will then be able to see all email sent to you by the instructor or students in that course.
