Pensacola State College Lady Pirate Season Outlook 2009-2010
After ending last season with a 22-8 record, the Lady Pirates are eager to tip off another exciting year of hoops in the Lou Ross Center. Coach Rigby is hoping that the strong leadership of her four sophomores, coupled with the talent and enthusiasm of her nine freshmen, will be the right combination to earn a coveted birth into the competitive FACC State Tournament this post-season.
The Lady Pirates will play this season under the leadership of four talented sophomores. Deana Allen, a 5’10 combo guard from Houma, Louisiana, earned the honors of 2009 Lady Pirate Team MVP and first team All-Panhandle Conference last season. She is one of the most highly recruited junior college players in the nation. Jazmond Stringer, 6’5 post from Miami, Florida, returns to the Lady Pirate roster after a summer of intense workouts and much personal improvement. Izzy Chillcott, 5’10 guard from Queensland, Australia, started in over half of the Lady Pirate games last season and brings much experience to the roster. De’Anglea Sword, 5’9 shooting guard from Montgomery, Alabama, rounds out the sophomore roster. Sword , a transfer from Louisiana Tech University, is an accomplished student and athlete, and will be a key play maker for the Lady Pirates this season.
The incoming freshmen are a talented group that will be exciting to watch. They embody a style of play that favors fast breaking offenses and pressing defenses. The personality and skill-level of this group favors an up-tempo style of play, and Coach Rigby feels that they are her best match yet for Panhandle Conference competitiveness.
Once again, the Lady Pirates have will compete with great players in a great conference (Panhandle Conference). They are looking forward to sharing an EXTRA-ordinary season with their Pirate fans, boosters and families.
