Corsair Wins Top Award for 15th Time!
Pensacola Junior College student newspaper The Corsair won the top prize at the 2008-2009 Florida Community College Press Association Convention held in Sarasota Oct. 16-17.
For the 15th time in the past 18 years, The Corsair captured the General Excellence Award for community college papers at schools with large enrollments.
That is the equivalent of an athletic team winning the state championship almost every year since 1990, says Thom Botsford, PJC district academic department head of English/Communications.
"Congratulations to the student editors and to student publications manager Chris Drain, who advises The Corsair," Botsford says.
In addition to the General Excellence Award, The Corsair won 13 individual accolades.
New PJC student magazine Issue also won awards. Competing against well-financed magazines from south and central
colleges, Issue contributors brought home two first-place awards for nonfiction and contents page design and one third-place award for fiction. Florida
