Mithril Celtic Music Sept. 30 Mithril is one of the most sought after Celtic/World music groups on the concert series scene. The band’s progressive style has roots in traditional Celtic music but moves far beyond that, weaving such diverse influences as American folk, classical and Middle Eastern melodies into their full tapestry of sound. The musicians perform with an array of traditional instruments including Irish flute, whistle, fife, Celtic harp, fiddle, bouzouki, mandolin, guitar, bodhran (Irish frame drum) and harmonium. |

Marie Howe, poet Oct. 12 Marie Howe is the author of three volumes of poetry: “The Kingdom of Ordinary Time,” “The Good Thief” and “What the Living Do.” Stanley Kunitz selected Howe for a Lavan Younger Poets Prize from the American Academy of Poets. She has is a former fellow at the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College and a recipient of NEA and Guggenheim fellowships. Her poems have appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic, Poetry, Agni, Ploughshares, Harvard Review and Partisan Review. She teaches creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia and New York University. |

Andrew York, guitarist Feb. 11 Andrew York is one of the most visible and innovative classical guitar composers today, winning a Grammy with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. York’s discography includes “California Breeze,” a recording for Sony Japan and numerous other compilations. The recording of “Ainadamar” (Deutsche Gramophone) won two Grammys. Tian Ying 2:30 p.m. Tian Ying is associate professor of keyboard performance at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he has also served as department chair. Winner of many prestigious awards, including high honors at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1989, Tian Ying enjoys a worldwide reputation as a pianist of taste, dexterity and artistry. Professor Ying has performed in many prestigious concert halls, including Jordan Hall in Boston, Mondavi Center in Davis, California, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Woodruff Art Center in Atlanta and Shanghai Grand Opera Theater in Shanghai. Tian Ying’s 1993 Bank of Boston Celebrity Series concert was chosen as one of the Top Ten in classical music events by the Boston Globe.
